Nutrition and Dietetics constitute fundamental and integral components of the therapeutic process at Diaplasis Rehabilitation & Recovery Center. As a contemporary and constantly evolving field of health science, dietetics is called upon to provide solutions in conditions where inadequate nutrition or poor dietary habits could lead to a wide range of medical/pathological complications.

Clinical nutrition in a Rehabilitation setting

Within the clinical environment of Diaplasis, the nutrition and dietetics team designs and adapts each patient’s dietary plan according to their individual medical needs, as they occur due to their overall heath condition and stage of recovery.

Swallowing assessment and feeding safety

From the beginning of hospitalization, a swallowing assessment is performed by the speech therapy department, which evaluates the patient’s ability to eat and drink safely.  The dietitian collaborates closely with the speech therapist to determine the most appropriate food texture and dietary consistency, to:

– ensure feeding safety
– protect the patient & prevent complications
– ensure adequate nutrition & hydration of the patient

Objectives of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department

  • Balanced and sufficient nutrition, tailored to the individual needs of each patient maintaining a healthy body weight
  • Nutritional counseling and advice to obese or overweight patients aiming at their best recovery
  • Screening for patients at nutritional risk of malnutrition/cachexia and approach with a personalized nutritional plan
  • Education in healthy eating habits, aiming at long-term lifestyle changes

Individual Nutritional Assessment

After the initial evaluation, a dietary prescription follows, a therapeutic approach goal and re-examination, in order to re-evaluate the patient’s case.

What is the Dietary Prescription?

It is a personalized dietary plan, designed to fully meet the patient’s energy needs, macronutrient and micronutrient requirements, taking into consideration the patient’s nutritional status, the coexisting medical conditions and the individual’s dietary preferences.

Nutritional Support after discharge

Upon discharge from the Rehabilitation Center, each patient:

  • receives detailed nutritional instructions,
  • remains under regular nutritional monitoring, where his body weight progress is evaluated
  • continues to receive support for assessment of his nutritional status

Certified Food Service Quality (ISO)

Diaplasis strongly emphasizes on the quality and safety of the meals provided to patients. The ISO certificate for the inpatient food service confirms the center’s commitment to maintaining high standards in quality and hygiene.
